October Events!

Another month, another batch of events to head out for! It’s been a busy month here at Engine Yard, with product announcements, moving and general growth, but we’ve still made time to travel the globe. These are the plans:

Announcing The First Ever JRubyConf!

It’s our extreme pleasure to announce the first annual JRubyConf, to take place Sunday, November 22nd, immediately following RubyConf 2009! We’ve been working on putting this together for a little while now, and it’s finally time to share.

You’ve Got Java in My Ruby

In Charlie Nutter’s blog post last week he talked about how easy it was to access Java classes from within JRuby. In this post, I am going to expand on that theme and demonstrate a few things you can do to give Java classes and APIs a Ruby face lift.

August Itineraries – See You There!

Somehow, August is upon us! The Engine Yard Cloud Flex Beta plan is out the door and doing really well, and we can barely keep up with all the great feedback our beta customers are sending our way. Things are just getting better and better every day!

Getting Started With JRuby

Last week, Engine Yard announced they would soon support running JRuby in their cloud environment. I think I speak for the whole JRuby community when I say how excited we are about this new possibility. JRuby has proven itself a top-notch, production-quality Ruby implementation, and the Engine Yard announcement really made us feel proud of what we've accomplished.

More of the Ruby Mendicant: Gregory Brown's Back with Another Great Project

For the second interview in this morning's double-header, I've got a quick one with Gregory Brown (@seacreature) about his recently announced second run as the Ruby Mendicant. Charlie Nutter on JRuby

It's taking a while to go through all the excellent talk proposals and try to fit in as many as possible into the schedule. In the mean time, I had a quick chat with Charlie Nutter, who will be speaking at the conference. Charlie is co-lead on the JRuby project.

RailsConf 2009 Speaker Interviews

RailsConf program chair Chad Fowler is conducting a series of speaker interviews in the run-up to the event, which is happening very soon, May 4-7 in Las Vegas. Mosey on over to ChadFowler.com to read more about Neal Ford and Paul Gross of ThoughtWorks, Michael Bleigh, who is Creative Director and Open-Source Activist at Intridea, JRuby and Rubinius leaders Charlie Nutter and Evan Phoenix, as well as Chad’s musing on Rails, Ruby, and open source.

RailsConf interviews, presenter posts, and keynotes

RailsConf 2009 is drawing ever closer and it’s going to be one hell of a show worthy of Vegas glitz and glamour. To let you all get more familiar with who’s going to be talking and what they’ll be talking about, Chad Fowler has been doing a series of presenter interviews:

RailsConf Speaker Interview: Charlie Nutter and Evan Phoenix

As I did for last year’s RubyConf, I’m starting a series of interviews of speakers at this year’s RailsConf to be held May 4-7 in Las Vegas.
