Taking a Stand on Health Care Reform

In 2008 when Atlantic Dominion Solutions had 9 employees, including myself, I started to look for a group plan that I could provide to all of my employees. I shopped around, got connected to a few insurance brokers through my contacts, and looked at the options. We then looked at the costs of reimbursing each employee if they purchased their own insurance. Ultimately, we decided to go the reimbursement route since everyone could get more coverage at a lower cost. I was shocked that this was the case.

I thought that if we had a group plan it would cost less. Not so.

I know that you are a logical person reading this post, and that you know there is something wrong with our health care system. I’m sure you’ve seen the ads against health care reform, but know that if something doesn’t change, then there soon might be more than 1 in 6 Americans without health insurance.

President Obama has a three-part solution to this issue:

  1. Reform the health care system
  2. Promote scientific and technological advancements
  3. Improve preventative care

Lofty goals they are, however our president aims high, which is why I like him. Do it big or get out. Anyhow, back to the issue.

Sadly, I heard a doctor call into a morning radio show today and admit that he had ordered thousands of unnecessary tests. Why? Because he was worried about the one in a billion chance that there was a misdiagnosis that a trial lawyer might jump on and sue him over. I wonder how much those tests costs. I wonder how much those tests cost us with health insurance.

Here’s some food for thought:

If you believe that we need affordable health insurance that everyone has access to, and can improve our country in so doing, then stand with our President on this issue and show your support. I do.
